K&N Infiniti G37 & Nissan 370Z Gets More Breathing Room!

For years sports car enthusiasts have flocked to Nissan dealerships to get their hands on the infamous line of Z-cars. Since its introduction in 1969, the Nissan series of Z-cars has sold almost 2 million units and holds the record for best selling sports car series of all time.

For many reasons the Z was forced into hiatus during the late 1990’s. When it resurfaced in late 2002 it wasn’t alone. Nissan Motors, who also builds luxury vehicles branded as Infiniti, created a line of Infiniti cars based on the Z platform. The now legendary G coupe and sedan were born out of this relationship.

The 2009 and 2010 370Z and G37 are well-engineered machines. However, K&N engineers are constantly in pursuit of more power. After looking under the hood, K&N engineers knew that with their expertise these cars were capable of more. Much consideration was put into the design of part number 69-7078TS for the 2009-2010 Nissan 370Z and Infiniti G37 models with a 3.7L V6 engine.

The stock intake tract uses a dual intake set up fed by dual air boxes and air filters. K&N intake 69-7078TS replaces the stock pieces with twin powder coated mandrel-bent aluminum intake tubes and dual K&N High-Flow Air Filters™ for improved air delivery. 69-7078TS incorporates two unique heat shields isolating the dual air filters from the warm air under the hood. This intake system provides improved performance and attractive silver powder coated aluminum Intake tubes to match the color of the engine bay.

The result of this hard work and enthusiasm for performance is over 14 more horsepower at the wheels. K&N’s Research and Development Department tested a 2009 Nissan 370Z with a 3.7L V6 engine on our in-house dynamometer. Results showed horsepower increases throughout the RPM range with a shocking peak horsepower gain of 14.2 horsepower @ 5,600 RPM! Equally impressive is the extra 13.34 lb-ft of torque this car picked up at 5,600 RPM.

This air intake system uses two conical shaped, High-Flow Air Filters. RU-4960XD captures harmful particles, flows more air, and provides long service life. This K&N air filter performs for up to 100,000 miles before service is required, depending on driving conditions.

In addition, K&N offers a RX-4990DK Drycharger® filter wrap that can be used in conjunction with part number 69-7078TS. Drycharger® filter wraps are durable pre-filters that are designed to filter large dirt particles and thus extend the time before the main air filter needs to be cleaned. These wraps can also repel water but add little restriction to the airflow of your filter. The wraps specifically designed for this intake filter are available in black, blue, red, and yellow.

69-7078TS is a complete system which takes about 90 minutes or less to install with common hand tools. It uses stock mounting points, requires no drilling, and is covered by the K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty®.

K&N Turbocharged Volkswagen and Audi New Air Intake System!

Lately, it seems like everyone is trying to do more with less, even in the automotive industry. Car buyers want vehicles which have lots of power, are reliable, and use as little fuel as possible. Car manufacturers can deliver a big punch from a small engine through the use of a turbocharger. Many Volkswagen and Audi vehicles use turbochargers, which is one reason why these brands of vehicles are among the most popular, fun to drive, and fuel efficient vehicles on the road today.

K&N has designed an air intake system (part number 69-9504TTK) for 2009-2010 Volkswagen Passat, Eos, CC, GTI, and Audi A3 vehicles equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine. The K&N intake system replaces the vehicle’s factory air box and air intake tube with a mandrel-bent aluminum tube and open element cone filter, which work together to eliminate restriction and allow the engine to perform at its full potential.

K&N engineers designed this air intake to be easy to install with common hand tools and photo-illustrated step-by-step instructions. The vehicle’s factory air box and filter are replaced with K&N’s washable RX-4730XD XStream® top air filter and a metal heat shield assembly. The heat shield helps to funnel cooler outside air into the RX-4730XD air filter and helps isolate hot engine heat allowing a clean, cool air supply for the turbocharger to inhale. The mandrel-bent intake tube efficiently channels the incoming air flow from the filter to the turbocharger, in a design compatible with all factory emissions equipment and sensors. The RX-4730XD air filter provides outstanding engine protection and it will last for up to 100,000 miles before service is necessary, depending on driving conditions.

Results from testing on K&N’s chassis dynamometer shows the 69-9504TTK air intake system provides a 9.19 HP increase at 4853 RPM when tested on a 2009 Audi A3 with a 2.0 liter turbo engine. Increased performance does not have to sacrifice reliability; the K&N 69-9504TTK is backed by K&N’s Million Mile Limited Warranty and Consumer Protection Pledge, and is compatible with your vehicle’s engine management software so no vehicle modifications are necessary in order to realize this added performance.

AEM New Nissan 370Z ETI Intake System!

Nissan Motors has created a legacy with its Z-car lineup of sports cars. The Z-car family of vehicles began in 1969 with the 240Z (AKA Fairlady Z in Japan) and has maintained its success with the current 370Z model. Now in its sixth generation of the sports car, Nissan has pushed the envelope of technological advancement with each successive model.

The all-new 370Z incorporates outstanding advancements in both mechanical and electronic features alike. Powered by the 3.7-liter VQ37VHR dual-over-head-cam V6 engine, the 370Z generates an impressive 332 horsepower (at the flywheel) in stock form. This abundance of power is made possible by utilizing Nissan’s Variable Valve and Lift Control technology (VVEL). Nissan’s VVEL variable valve timing technology allows the VQ37 engine to be more efficient while improving response and power output at higher RPMs.

In order to harness the power of the 370Z’s V6 engine, Nissan invested particular attention to the 370Z’s power delivery system. To transfer the power to the rear wheels, Nissan couples the powerful engine to either a 7-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, or a 6-speed manual transmission that features the first ever synchronized downshift rev-match system.

When upgrading a vehicle such as the 370Z, enthusiasts expect a high caliber of technology from their performance parts as well. AEM has accomplished incredible technological advances with their Electronically Tuned Intake (ETI) technology. The great news for 370Z enthusiasts is that a new ETI Cold Air Intake System is now available for the 2009 Nissan 370Z (part number 41-1001P).

To match up to the VQ37′s dual throttle bodies, the 41-1001P is comprised of dual mandrel-bent aluminum inlet tubes. Each highly polished 2.75-inch inlet tube originates at the throttle body and routes to the left and right wheel wells. It is in the wheel wells that DryFlow performance air filters are mounted to each inlet tube. The oil-free DryFlow technology is very durable and easy to clean. To take the filtration properties of the DryFlow performance air filter even further, AEM offers Filter Wraps that are manufactured from durable micro-screen materials that are pretreated with a proprietary hydrophobic process. AEM filter wraps repel water splashes and extend the filters service life. For the 41-1001P air intake system, AEM Filter Wraps are available as a separate accessory (part number 1-4000).

In order to clear enough space for the DryFlow air filters, AEM includes a custom designed windshield washer fluid reservoir with each 41-1001P air intake system. Each 370Z air intake system also includes two pre-programmed ETI modules. Both of the 370Z’s Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensors plug directly into an included ETI module, which are specifically programmed to read the proper air density data. The result is more horsepower and torque gains.

In the case of the 370Z, the VQ37 engine responded well to AEM’s ETI technology. The 41-1001P cold air intake systems improve the 370Z’s power output from the stock baseline of 241 hp to a peak of 250 hp with the intake installed. In addition to enhancing the peak horsepower performance, a maximum gain of 9.67 horsepower was also recorded at 7,100 RPM during AEM’s testing. As seen on the dyno graph, a vast improvement is made from 6,600 RPM until the VQ37′s redline.
