On a short list of definitive American muscle cars, arguably the top contender has to be the Corvette. Invented in 1951 by GM designer Harley Earl, who was inspired by the great European sports cars of the day. He was looking to create an American sports car that could compete and win at the race track. Two years later, the first Corvette strutted out of the Chevrolet factory in Flint, Michigan on June 30, 1953. That first year only 300 were made. Six generations and 1.5 million Corvettes later (and still counting), no other car has achieved 58 years of production, and clearly no other car has matched the romantic, near mystical appeal of Chevrolet’s powerful two-seat sports car. Options can be really exciting when it comes to purchasing a new pickup truck. The popular 2011 Ford F150 provides plenty of options, such as; 3 different engines, 3 bed lengths, 3 cabs sizes, and a hand full of interior and exterior upgrades. One impressive option is the throw back 5.0L engine that produces an estimated 360 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque. Like most factory vehicles, some horsepower is lost due to a restrictive factory air intake system.

An easy way to gain power and performance is to bolt on a K&N air intake system custom designed to fit your 2011 Ford F-150 pickup with 5.0L engine. If you have a different F-150 use K&N’s vehicle search. Part number 63-2581 fits the 5.0 liter model. It includes a low restriction K&N air filter and free-flowing roto-molded intake tube. Dyno testing was performed on the 63-2581, and revealed an estimated gain just under 12 horsepower at 5304 rpm when installed on 2011 Ford F-150 models with the 5.0 liter engine.

The 63-2581 is equipped with air filter part RC-5173, which is washable and reusable. This over-sized performance air filter can go for up to 100,000 miles before it needs servicing depending on driving conditions. It allows high air flow while providing outstanding filtration. In order to provide cooler air to the engine the RC-5173 is isolated from much of the engine heat by a custom designed heat shield. It is placed on top of the OE inlet in the lower airbox assembly so it can direct cooler outside air toward the air filter.

COBB Tuning is proud to announce the release of our latest addition to our Nissan GT-R performance parts: The COBB Tuning Big SF Intake. The Big SF Intake is a 3-inch ID intake designed to open the door to high-power builds in the future, yet work effortlessly with an otherwise stock GT-R. The Big SF Intake kit future-proofs your intake, so you won’t need to upgrade this component later if you decide to go down the path of major modifcations. Furthermore, it installs as easily as our regular SF Intake, without any cutting or trimming of bodywork.

In stock form, the R35 ECU measures airflow using a Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor located in the stock intake system. As modifications add up and increase power, the airflow can increase to the point that it exceeds the MAF sensor’s maximum capacity, preventing the ECU from accurately measuring air mass, and thus unable to deliver the appropriate amount of fuel. The Big SF Intake increases the inner diameter of the intake tubing, increasing the cross section of the intake and allowing the MAF sensor to read lower for the same amount of ingested air. This gives the sensor the necessary headroom to read accurately for airflow higher than the stock system was designed for. COBB Tuning has used the Big SF Intake to support builds of over 600HP and 600TQ at the wheels, gains of 40% over a stock GT-R!

Changing the calibration of the MAF sensor necessitates tuning changes to recalibrate the ECU. COBB Tuning has you covered here as well with a set of free AccessPORT Big SF Intake Off-The-Shelf maps for all supported GT-R Stage1 and Stage2 vehicles. Big SF Intake maps are available for download from the Nissan GT-R AccessPORT Map Database.

The Big SF Intake shares all of the same quality features of its popular smaller brother.
